Kansas fires football coach David Beaty, effective at the end of season

November 04, 2018 - 4:43 pm

The University of Kansas has announced that head football coach David Beaty will be relieved of his duties at the end of the season.

The announcement was made in a press release Sunday afternoon.

In the release, KU Athletics Director Jeff Long stated that after a thorough evaluation of the program he believed that new leadership was necessary for the football team to move forward and compete at the highest level of the Big 12 Conference. "I know that Coach Beaty cares deeply about his players, and I respect that. The student-athletes on this team have continued to play hard - and I am confident they will do that for the rest of the season," Long said.

Beaty has amassed a 6-39 record in three-plus seasons with the Jayhawks, including a 2-31 record in Big 12 Conference play. He will continue to coach the team until the regular season finale against Texas on November 23.

No candidates have been revealed but Long indicated that the search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
