College Bowling: two WSU bowlers advance into Singles Round of 16 at nationals

In college bowling, the Intercollegiate Singles Championships are underway in Dayton, Ohio; the event features 24 men and 24 women seeking an individual national championship.

Tuesday's competition began with six qualifying games.

On the women's side, one of the competitors is Wichita State senior Sierra Kanemoto; she is from Dayton, and is bowling in her hometown. Kanemoto placed seventh among the 24 bowlers through six qualifying games; her high score was 244 in Game 2. As the #7 seed, Kanemoto got a bye into the Round of 16 match play early Wednesday morning

In the men's competition is Wichita State's Kyle Duster, who was the 24th and final qualifyer from sectionals to make it into the competition at nationals. Duster placed seventh as well at nationals among the 24 bowlers after the six qualifying games; his high score was 235 in the sixth and final game. As the #7 seed, Duster received a bye into the Round of 16 of match play early Wednesday morning.

The team competition begins on Thursday.
