Abrupt end to the season for high school hoops in Kansas

State Tournament quarterfinal games were held around the state of Kansas at a half-dozen sites on Thursday, but the Kansas State High Schools Acitvities Association decided to cancel the remainder of the tournaments in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus; the semifinals on Friday and championship games on Saturday have been canceled.

*Class 6A boys (at Koch Arena, Wichita State University): top-seed Campus under head coach Chris Davis won in the quarterfinals Thursday, defeating Manhattan 66-50. Campus finishes the season among the Final 4 with a record of 23-0.

*Class 6A girls: Derby (21-2) finishes among the Final 4.

*Class 5A boys: top-seed Andover (23-0) and Kapaun Mount Carmel (17-6) finish among the Final 4.

*Class 5A girls (at Emporia): in the quarterfinals Thursday, #1-seed McPherson defeated Basehor-Linwood 59-44, and #2-seed Andover Central beat DeSoto 61-52. Both McPheson & Andover Central finish the season in the Final 4 with records of 22-1.

*Class 4A boys (at Salina): in the quarterfinals Thursday, #8-seed Rose Hill (13-10) continued its Cinderella run in the postseason, with a 61-57 upset win over #1-seed Parsons. Augusta (19-4) also won in the quarterfinals, 53-41 over Ottawa. Rose Hill & Augusta finish among the Final 4.

*Class 4A girls: top-seed Nickerson (21-2) finishes among the Final 4.

*Class 3A boys: Wichita Collegiate (21-3) finishes among the Final 4.

*Class 3A girls (at Hutchinson): in the quarterfinals Thursday, Halstead defeated Scott City 45-41 in double overtime, and Cheney beat Phillipsburg 66-53. Halstead & Cheney both finish with records of 21-3, among the Final 4.

*Class 2A boys (at Bramlage Coliseum, Kansas State University in Manhattan): in the quarterfinals Thursday, #8-seed Hillsboro (15-9) upset #1-seed Pratt-Skyline 57-51; Sterling (20-4) defeated Erie 64-54, and Garden Plain (19-5) advanced with a 50-47 win over Hoxie. Sterling, Garden Plain, and Hillsboro, all seeded at #5 or lower, all finished among the Final 4.

*Class 2A girls: Garden Plain (19-4) finished among the Final 4.
